James
Harvey – piano, trombone, clavinet
He is almost the embodiment of the Burlington, VT music scene. Proficient
at all instruments, James has also played around the world with jazz-fusion
stars, the Hieroglyphics Ensemble, and with Surrender to the Air. He does
a cameo in Outside Out, pushing his slider outward toward a zooming fish-eye
lens. |

Russ Lawton – drums
Russ grooves like a metronome on ginseng. The pulse behind The Trey Anastasio
Band and Gordon Stone's own "Trio," this guy is like a good train
ride. |
Gordon
Stone – pedal steel
Gordon has been playing banjo and steel for decades, including years with
the bluegrass band Breakaway, and touring more recently with The Gordon
Stone Trio. He has played on albums by Phish and The Blood Oranges; his
swelling steel sound is the dominant voice on Inside In.

W/ SPECIAL GUESTS
|
Bela
Fleck – banjo
Have you checked him? This guy rips it up on the banjo. Namesake for The
Flecktones, Bela, oft considered our premier American banjoist, colored
Inside In multiplextrously. |

Jeff Coffin – clarinet
Also a Flecktone member, Jeff added a handful of clarinet swoops to the
recordings. He has also has played with, I'm sure, several other famous
people (Dave Matthews, Van Morrison, Branford Marsalis, Medeski, Martin & Wood). |
Col.
Bruce Hampton, (Ret.) – guitar wumps
A wump happens when you pound the strings while moving the left hand perpendiagonally.
From Hampton Grease Band to Aquarium Rescue Unit, Bruce's projects have
stunned onlookers for decades. Many consider him the Bobby Bland of the
Panhandle, and he was in Slingblade, and Mike played on one of his albums,
and he can guess your birthday accurately.

Future
Man – percussion
Often known for his prosthetic drumset, the Synth-Axe Drumitar, this fine
percussionist was captured here with more traditional tools. Needless to
say, Roy has recorded with the much-revered Steve Miller Band. |

Buddy Cage – pedal steel
Buddy replaced Jerry Garcia as the pedal steel player for New Riders of
The Purple Sage. He's also played with Bob Dylan (“Blood On The Tracks”)
and some other folks. With sweet agility, Buddy compliments Gordon Stone's
steel playing. |
Jared Slomoff – vocals, trumpet
Jared became the studio manager and engineer at Cactus Unlimited after
working with Col. Bruce Hampton (Ret.) and others in the Atlanta music
scene. Adept at many instruments, Jared's tones proved quite valuable.
Mike and Jared are the voices for Manhattan based, "Loftgrass."

Vassar
Clements – fiddle
Vassar was one of the first fiddlers with the father of bluegrass, Bill
Monroe, in the 1950's. Since then he's recorded with Hank Williams, Paul
McCartney, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Buffett, and The Grateful Dead. He's a real
country gentlemen, and can get that true "mountain" sound like
nobody's business. |
Jon Fishman – drums
He's not just namesake for Phish, he's karma-sake. Always willing to enjoy unexpected
adventures on a whim, this drummer has big ears. Thus, bass and drum jams with "Fish" were
cathartic and led to songs for this album.
|
Gabe Jarrett – drums
Son of the jazz pianist, Keith Jarrett, Gabe has played with the Jazz Mandolin
Project, Smokin' Grass, and with James Harvey's jazz ensemble. His layering
of affected hi-hats on Couch Lady is astounding.
|
Craig Johnson – trumpet
Craig normally trumpets for the Vermont based Dr. Jazz and the Dixie Hot Shots.
Here's a coincidence: Craig lived half a mile from Mike whilst Mike was "growing
up." He did well when forced to play the wrong notes.
|
Heloise Williams – vocals
Formerly the singer for funky Vermont-based 'Viperhouse,' Heloise is
now living and performing in NYC. She also provided a sexy voice for
Phish's
album, “Story Of The Ghost.”
and others...

|
Josh Roseman– trombone
NYC Based trombonist Josh Roseman is the leader of the JRU, is also currently performing with the Dave Holland Big Band, Peter Apfelbaum's Hieroglyphics Ensemble, the Mike Gordon Band and others.
|
Jeannie Hill– tap dancing, vocals
In addition to her work as a tap soloist, Jeannie Hill is associate artistic director, choreographer, and principal performer of the Jump Rhythm Jazz Project.
|
Julee Avallone – flutes, saxes, vocals, percussion, etc
Julee's biographical information has only recently been declassified. She is attending the Contemporary Improvisation Masters program at an undisclosed Conservatory in New England.
|
Scott Murawski – guitar, vocals
Guitarist Scott Murawski brings a wealth of musical experience as frontman
for Max
Creek as well as several side and solo projects, including most recently
the jazz-jam ensemble Depth
Quartet.
In 2000 he released Stormfield,
a collection of original work on which he plays nearly
all instruments and exhibits a galaxy of diverse influences expressed through
a truly unique voice. From scorching leads to churning rhythms, the well-traveled
Murawski and his trusty guitar have been moving audiences in clubs and
theaters for over 30 years. The recent Mike Gordon shows featured several
Murawski originals. |
Doug Belote – drums
Doug's info is top secret. We will only give you this clue.
